Common Questions and Answers

1

I do not know anything about horses, is that ok?

Of course it is! No prior knowledge of horses is needed or expected. There is no riding involved. Interaction with the horses is at ground level only.

2

What types of services does the Horses, Humans and Healing H3 program offer?
Horses, Humans and Healing AKA the H3 program offers sessions for individuals, couples, families and groups. At times workshops are also offered that may vary in length and by topic. Other equine actvities are sometimes also offered depending on client's needs.

What do I wear to attend sessions?

Dressing in layers is reccommended and please dress for the weather as we will be outside. NO OPEN TOE shoes or FLIP FLOPS are allowed. TENNIS SHOES are ok .

How long does a session last?

Individual, couple and family sessions usually last 50 minutes to an hour. Groups are usually 90 minutes. Some team building sessions or workshops will be different depending on the agreed upon needs and time of the group and facilitators.

The weather is bad will we still have our session?

Sessions are held in various weather conditions.  A member of the H3 staff will contact you up to an hour before session to cancel if needed.  Typically if it is warmer than 93 degrees or colder than 40 degrees at the time of the scheduled session it may be cancelled. It is important for the horses as well as the humans to be comfortable to minimize risk and enhance interaction.

What is EAL (Equine Assisted Learning) and EAP (Equine Assisted Psychotherapy) ?

Equine Assisted Learning is any learning that happens when interacting with horses. An example of this may be a team building excercise. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is much more clinical in nature that provides therapeutic benefits for the client, couple, family or group.

What is the team approach and what are their roles?

A team using the EAGALA model is at a minimum comprised of 2 people. A Mental Health Professional AKA MH, who is responsible for monitoring the emotional safety of everyone in the the arena and an Equine Specialist AKA ES ,who is responsible for overseeing the physical safety of participants. There may be times where the observing team is larger than 2 people and include roles that are other than MH or ES. Feel free to ask facilitators about their roles if further explanation is needed or to please inquire when registering for services for the H3 program.
